What was life like for Jews in the Roman world in the first century, especially for Jews in Roman Italy? Our class introduces you to that world, then takes you on a virtual walking tour of Pompeii, from its theaters and eateries to its mansions and temples. Along the way, we’ll explore the likely Jewish presence in the city when Mt. Vesuvius erupted, and review mysterious texts that suggest Pompeii’s destruction was the work of the God of Israel.
