Jerusalem has been attacked/ besieged and/or overrun dozens of times in its 4000-year history. Join us as we explore more with Jehon Grist, Ph.D.
We’ll begin our journey with a visit to Canaanite Jerusalem 4,000 years ago and view the first ‘golden walls’ of the city from that era. We’ll follow the mysterious path that led to David’s conquest, then witness the growth of Biblical Israel’s capital from Solomon to Zedekiah. After the city’s destruction in 586 BCE, we’ll see how it rebuilt itself, and Judaism, in the centuries that followed. We’ll marvel at Herod’s Jerusalem as we take a virtual walking tour of the city of Hillel and Jesus, then mourn its fall to Rome as dramatically described by Flavius Josephus. We’ll close with the most recent 2,000 years: Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic Jerusalem, leading to the tumultuous 20th century, and Jerusalem’s emergence as the restored heart of modern Israel.
