March 10, 2020 – All Courses Are Moving Online
To ensure the health of all of our educators and participants, we have decided to move all of our courses to online platforms through March. We are closely following recommendations from public health officials and will continue to update everyone via email, our website, and social media.
In this time of uncertainty, we believe it is paramount that we come together as a community. While we cannot do that in person, we are supporting our community with online Zoom platforms.
The original impetus behind our name change was to broaden the scope of what we can do to create community in the Bay Area through Jewish learning and ritual. We liked the concept that God is not located in one place; rather, wherever Jews gather can be transformed into a sacred space.
And for now, The Place is online.
For some, this is an easy transition. For others, technology and online communication is difficult or feels nearly impossible. Our staff is dedicated to finding solutions so that our community can stick together in this difficult time. We feel it is important for HaMaqom to be visible in the community and to show up for each other. For health and safety, we may need to temporarily avoid large group gatherings, but we do not need to isolate from each other.
We understand that for some people, online courses are not what you wanted. We’re sorry for the disappointment and disruption. The decision to move to virtual instruction was not made lightly. The goal of these changes is to ensure the continuity of our programming and to protect the health of those in our community.
We are proud to be a part of the Bay Area Jewish community, a community that will always put the greater good above individual sacrifice. As Jews, that is what we do and have always done—we look out for each other—and we will continue to do so. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these uncertain waters.

March 9, 2020 – Our Gala Is Postponed
On Friday, March 6th, the City of San Francisco informed us that due to ongoing public health concerns over COVID-19, all events at City-owned venues between March 7th and March 20th are cancelled. This includes the cancellation of our gala honoring Rabbi Peretz scheduled for March 15th at the San Francisco War Memorial. Although we are terribly disappointed by this development, we understand that it is for the public good, and thus we fully support the City’s decision.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please know that we are working on a new date for the event, hopefully at the same wonderful venue. We will have an announcement as soon as we can. If you already purchased a ticket, it will remain valid for the rescheduled event. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions or concerns. Thank you again for your continued support!
