Jason Harris


Jason Harris, Associate Director at HAMAQOM | The Place, is a Jewish educator and former politico with a passion for teaching Jewish and Israeli history. Jason develops and supports vibrant Jewish learning experiences, including courses, large scale public events, and study tours.

The Bay Area native is a graduate of the University of California, Davis, with a B.A. in International Relations; and the Hornstein Program for Jewish Professional Leadership at Brandeis University, with master’s degrees in Near Eastern & Judaic Studies and Jewish Communal Service.

Jason served in Washington, D.C. as the Legislative Director to Representative Alcee L. Hastings. Prior to assuming his current role in January 2019, Jason spent five years as the Birthright Program Director at the San Francisco-based Jewish Community Federation, leading over five hundred Bay Area young professionals on their Israel journeys.

Jewish Practice & Lifestyle, Part Two. This three-part series, which can be taken in any order, introduces students to Jewish culture, history, and practice. Communal and individual Jewish life dances to the rhythm of two different cycles: Jewish lifecycle events and the cycle of the Jewish year. This section of the course examines the connections between Jewish traditions and lifecycle events, with an emphasis on the spring holidays of Passover, Shavuot, and contemporary national holidays.
