HaMaqom educators love teaching Hebrew and have been building community and connect people to the Hebrew language and culture for decades. Our emphasis is on helping language learners feel comfortable reading, writing, and speaking Hebrew. We use textbooks but much of our learning happens in class and in the interactions between students. There, students learn to talk about themselves and share good news, (in Hebrew!) with their peers.
Student testimonials:
I started as a real beginner and I really can’t believe how much I have learned about not only the language but the culture and historical roots of Hebrew.
– Linda
Along with the mechanics of the language, these courses give cultural context and interesting information about Israel.
– Ari
I’m enjoying learning Hebrew with a native speaker, learning the usage and context… A lot of work is in small groups, so each person has a turn to practice reading and conversing.
– Debbie
Hebrew sessions are lively and engaging, allowing students to immerse in the work at their own pace.
– Cindy
I love studying Hebrew with Tikva because it always feels like I’m talking with the heart of Israel. She loves the Hebrew language and has a creative, enjoyable approach to learning in both groups and individual instruction.
– Max
Fun and well-paced.
– Karla
My favorite thing about Tikva’s class is the craftsmanship, her drills are far more innovative than any book, which would be ‘daienu’ all by itself – except that she also customizes them to fit the individual learning backgrounds of a diverse group of students. In all honesty, her classes are more efficient than many college-level language courses requiring substantially more time and resources, not to mention that she’s much more accessible and experienced than most full-time tenured professors. I’ve yet to leave a class without having learned something and never seen one end where I didn’t have something interesting to consider for the next one. Also, they’re just plain fun, her patience and humor seem endless.
