Zohar Circle – Peninsula – Fall 2020

The Zohar is the great compendium of Jewish mysticism, myth and esoteric teaching, and is considered one of the most important religious texts of all time. The Zohar is a challenge to the normal workings of consciousness that dares us to examine our assumptions about tradition, God, and self. To experience the Zohar’s spiritual mysteries, you must engage the text and follow the words to what lies beyond and within. To receive its meaning, open the gates of imagination. This course will focus on passages from Volume 9, including an account of R. Shimon and some of his companions in the Garden of Eden where they discover secrets of the afterlife, and the story of the Yanuka, a wonder-child who amazes, teases, and stumps the rabbis. No prior Jewish knowledge is necessary. All you need to bring is your curiosity.

Rabbi Lavey Derby, Director of Jewish Life at the Peninsula Jewish Community Center will let you know, once registered, the sections of Zohar we will be learning.
