The Last Days of Pompeii: A Jewish Perspective (Summer 2021)

Thursday, July 1, 2021 thru Thursday, July 8, 2021
7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
See session list below for specific session times and locations.
Educator: Jehon Grist, Ph.D.
Online CA

What was life like for Jews in the Roman world in the first century, especially for Jews in Roman Italy?

Our class introduces you to that world, then takes you on a virtual walking tour of Pompeii, from its theaters and eateries to its mansions and temples. Along the way, we’ll explore the likely Jewish presence in the city when Mt. Vesuvius erupted, and review mysterious texts that suggest Pompeii’s destruction was the work of the God of Israel.

This course complements the Legion of Honor exhibit “Last Supper at Pompeii.” https://legionofhonor.famsf.org/exhibitions/pompeii
