Pop, Politics, and Play: Israel and the Eurovision (Spring 2021)
The Eurovision song contest — the single most-watched live TV event in the world — offers a unique lens through which to explore Israeli politics, history, and the national mood. The Israeli government almost fell three times because of controversy over Eurovision. Over six sessions we’ll explore “behind the scenes” of Eurovision and ultimately get a better understanding of the story of Israel. Back by popular demand, this course will also include current music and clips from this year’s Eurovision contest, which is scheduled for May 2021.
