Overlapping Landscapes: Navigating Contemporary Israel – Summer 2020

Just as Israel’s landscape is diverse, so are the voices and histories of the people living in this land.  In this course we will embark together on a journey through TV, film and popular culture, to learn about the human stories and geographical landscapes of this diverse and complex place. We will travel from South to the North, looking at the landscapes and visiting Mizrachi Jews, Palestinians, Ultra Orthodox, LGBTQ, Druze and Bedouins and through the lens of popular culture will discuss the challenges these groups face and the achievements they have made in Israeli society. Registrants will receive a Zoom link from the educator the day before the start of the course.
This program is presented in collaboration with the ICC Department of the Oshman family in Palo Alto.
